The Challenge


The leading swiss credit card company Viseca wanted its business to reflect growing public demand for the use of renewable raw materials. Viseca was therefore looking for a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic credit cards.

The Solution


Swiss Wood Solutions developed a payment card whose layers consist solely of wood and paper and whose card body is 100% compostable. The newly developed card underwent Visa and Mastercard’s rigorous testing procedures and was certified by both companies. The result is the world’s first ISO-certified wooden card without plastic core.

The Result


The newly developed Timbercard looks and feels amazing. Its material hardness also ensures that it is extremely scratch-resistant. A range of wood types, colors and patterns offers a variety of design options and makes every card unique. The Timbercard can be laser-engraved with precise lettering and labeling for perfect customization. The use of wood as a material supports sustainable, local forestry.
