The Challenge


The company Woodpads AG attaches great importance to protecting the environment. Its aim was to transform conventional soccer shin guards (made from fossil-based materials) into a resource-conserving lifestyle product.

The Solution


Lightweight, thin, attractive yet robust: Swiss Wood Solutions developed the new Woodpads shin guards right through to a market-ready product, which involved a multistage certification process. Woodpads are manufactured in Switzerland, and the wood is sourced from sustainably managed local forests. The product was extensively tested by professional soccer players and keen amateurs to guarantee its superlative qualities.

The Result


Despite their lightweight feel, the Woodpads shin guards – made from certified wood – offer top-class protection and maximum freedom of movement. They can be printed with club logos and messages to create highly customized one-off pieces, and can be purchased at woodpads.ch.

What we particularly appreciate about our collaboration with Swiss Wood Solutions AG is that they were not only able to implement our idea of a wooden shin guard in a short space of time and start small series production, but that the team also actively supported us in drawing up the Woodpads business plan and obtaining the necessary certifications.
